Breeding question

I want a speckledy hen for the egg color. Which to my understanding is a RIR x Marans. Well, here is my question. Would I cross a RIR hen with The Marans roo, or vice versa. Also, does it matter what type of Marans? Cuckoo, BC etc...

I have already hatched out some RIR x BC Marans roo. So I will see how that goes as far as egg color, if I get a pullet out of them.

From my understanding the speckledy hen is just a black sexlink using cuckoo marans instead of barred rocks. So you would use RIR roo on cuckoo maran hens.
