1.Does the hen determine the size of baby chicks?
2. Which parent determine the egg size?
3. Does the rooster determine the color?
4.Can a Bantam Rooster and a LF Hen make a bantam baby chick?
or would the chick be to large to hatch?
5.Can you breed the feathered leg out of the chick,or would the chicken always have feathered legs?

the only answer I know so far is that the hen gives the size of the chick.

1) Depends on who you talk too. I think most of the time they do, but sometimes the roosters genes take over and they will take back after him.

2) both.
3) Not always, barred breeds usually they do, but sometimes it will be a combination of colors that will create the color of the chick.

4) They sure can mate but the chick usually will be inbetween sizes of the bantam and the large fowl.

5) Yes, the feathers on the legs can be bred out, usually takes several generations though.

You are dealing with gentics. There are dominate, recessive, incompletely dominate, co-domiate, sex-linked dominate/recessive, sex-limited, sex-influenced, and more types!

However, none of these are owned by a specific gender. Each gender can come across each of these inheritance modes.

  1. I have heard of this, but have my doubts. Either way, once you loose weight on your birds it will be difficult to pick it up again. Keeping proper weight on both parents is very important.
  2. Both
  3. Both sexes determine the color.
  4. Both (it would be in-between in this case)
  5. Yes, but it would take years. You are dealing with an incompletely dominate gene, chances are it will pop up in that bloodline for many years to come, if not forever.
