Hi! So I’ve recently sold my breeding BBS English Orpington’s and I’m looking to start something else. I’m wanting to purchase chicks now to be mature by next spring/summer for breeding or for resale if I change my mind.

So that leads me to my questions:

1. How would I breed Americauna’s?
- Do I have to go with only 1 color.. like I would breed ONLY a blue Roo to blue hens, or do they have blue black splash (BBS) crosses for their breed as well?

I have the same questions for Silkie’s as well so please let me know, those of you who have experience!

Yes you can do BBS with all breeds of chickens that have this coloring. Both Ameraucana and Silkies come in a BBS color variety.😊

One more question, what do you get when you breed lavenders, like lavender Roo to lavender hen?
Lavender (self blue) is recessive and if both birds are lavender then you will get all lavender chicks. You can also breed birds that are not visually lavender (split to lavender) but carry the gene, to another split or to another lavender and get lavender chicks. It is usually not advisable to mix lavender with BBS.
