kingmt: thanks for the info. That is why I mounted the thermostat to the electric box. It is supposed to help. I will be out of town for a couple of days then I am gonna fire it up and see what happens.

Got back from my trip and fired up the incubator. Let it run overnight. The 40 watters would not get the temps over 94. Changed to 60s and the temp wont get over 97. It took the 60s over 6 hours to bring it from 94 to 97 so I think tomorrow I am gonna throw 100s in it. I have noticed another problem. Temps near the turner which is close to the baffle are showing 104, but the other side (hatcher) near the thermostat are 97. I was hoping all of this would even out after the entire incubator had time to heat up. Any ideas. I haven't even got it hot enough yet to tweek the thermostat, but obviously 104 at the turner is too hot. I knew this was not gonna be easy but I am already getting discouraged.

you might try insulating the outside of your bator with the 1/2" blue sheathing insulataion I had a little laying around when I built my bator after I put it on I stopped losing the heat the bulbs were making reading here at BYC looks like a lot of folks use heat sinks water bottles full of water Ice packs and all I have not tried this yet it may help with the swings depending on how big your bator is
