Good morning,

I bought my first hens last October. I started with 6 Rhode Island Reds, then I purchased 4 more hens 2 Americanas and 2 others (?). They started producing eggs at 6 months. I now have only 5 hens and have been given a Rooster just a month ago. I enjoy having Chickens and having fresh eggs daily. What I am interested in is when will they begin to breed, because I would like to add to my flock.

thank you from,

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

If your rooster is of breeding age and pullets are healthy, eating well and they aren't stressed in any way, they should be breeding and laying anytime now.

Good luck and welcome to our roost! :)

Welcome back to BYC!

Here is my best advice for navigating this forum:

If you have not already, put your location in your profile, not your address or anything but at least your state that will help you get better advice, and speaking of advice....

Almost everyone here is an absolute expert on almost everything imaginable, take me for example I have left advice about freezing temps and I live in Southern California. So take the best and leave the rest.

Once you do get some good advice, and you will, then follow said advice... Example being the guy who burned down his coop after being advised not to use a heat lamp in the coop and then talks about how to place the heat lamp going forward in the new coop....

Stay away from religion and politics, its just not worth it:oops:

Oh, and build BIG, chicken math is real:plbb

Welcome to the flock!

Hello and welcome to BYC
Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
