Pretty breeds you keep! I would get only one rooster unless these Australops and Andalusians are kept separate. One roo per flock. How many hens do you have?

Well, my 'math' hasn't caught me yet as I need a bigger coop. I have eight hens. Five Black Australorps and three Blue Andalusians. I get 7-8 eggs each day! They are very good girls. I want some chicks this spring is why I'm asking. The roosters (I saw online) in both breeds are very handsome. Which one should I pick?

Gosh, both are very pretty breeds. I am partial to Australorps since I keep them, but I would think the Andalusian roo is much prettier. Its up to you!! With the amount of hens you have, you should only keep one roo.

So it's ok to mix the breeds? I don't really want to but I need chicks. Yes, I like the Andalusian roo better. I'm probably going to have a hard time finding either. I'm headed to a farm auction tonight to look. Thanks for your information!

Unless you are breeding Hertitage breeds or show chickens, you can mix breeds. Mutt chickens. Lots of us have them.
