Breeding

You may lose the variety, but not the breed. If you have a standard bred variety of one color and breed it a standard bred bird of another color the result would still be the breed, but the result might also be a mess, in terms of coloration.

A Buff Plymouth Rock bred to a White Plymouth Rock might produce chicks that, while still Rocks, would not considered either Buff or White nor meet the standards for Buff nor White.

Hope that helps. Do you have something specific in mind?

Phenotypes:

Pullets:
blue patterned red laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%, minimum of animals to breed: 4
Pullets:
black patterned red laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%, minimum of animals to breed: 4
Cockerels:
blue patterned yellow/golden laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%, minimum of animals to breed: 4
Cockerels:
black patterned yellow/golden laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%, minimum of animals to breed: 4

This would be the results of crossing a BLRW roo x SLW hens.
The cockerels would not be desirable to keep for breeding. The pullets could be used in a BLRW program.
