Breeds for Florida?

Most breeds do well here in Florida. I have some really heavy breeds and they do fine. My coops are open air coops with plenty of ventilation. I also make sure they have a big shaded area to be in during the hottest part of the day. When it gets really hot I spray down the pens in the afternoon, they love that. I also keep large tubs of water in the coops a kitty litter box or dishpan filled with water. ALot of the time they stand in in to cool off when its hot.

I've never found a breed that did not perform well in Florida and I've had more than a dozen different types. Even my Black Jersey Giants did well so long as they had fresh water and shade.

If I had to choose the very best breed I'd say a White Leghorn because they'll get out and forage more than any other bird I've seen, but they all do well.

Well, sure, but I think for a hot, humid climate, the birds who are lighter colored and less heavily feathered do better. I have blue Orps. They suffer the most in the hot summers here in Ga. Most of the common breeds will survive there with enough cool water and lots of ventilation, but I think some just do better than others.

Sugar Sand Farm,
You wouldn't happen to have a picture of your open air pen would you? Mine is open air too and I don't get to see too many here. I am always looking for improvements. I am also wanting to get some o shamo and need to build another pen for them.
