So our lovely female Jumbo Pekin, Milo is getting 1 or 2 companions in the next couple weeks and I'm having trouble finding anything on the internet about which breeds they get along with. I've heard that if you introduce them as ducklings that they are more likely to get along, but Milo is already 4 months old and is reaching sexual maturity. I'm not sure whether I should get the other one(s) as a duckling or another adult. I'm also going to make sure I get another female.

As for breeds, I've read that I should get another heavy duck, so I've been looking at Silver Appleyard, Buff Opington (which is classified as a medium but I thought that could be okay?) and Saxony.

And is there a way to make the integration/meeting go more smoothly. I don't want to end up with any hurt ducks.

Do you have any farms nearby? Maybe think about borrowing a duck from a farm with the idea of buying it if they're compatible? Ducks can be territorial and temperamental. First meetings can be a crapshoot at best.

My pekin loves her flockmates, a khaki campbell and welsh harlequin. She wasn't raised with them, but they all adore each other. In my flock the breed hasn't mattered.

I suspect you should get Milo an adult duck since she could hurt a duckling.

Definitely have them live side by side, separated by a fence to get used to each other.

Good luck! Post photos!

I'm actually really happy to hear that yours gets along with a Welsh Harlequin because that breed was one that I was really looking into!:)

Thank you so much!
