I have a couple of rouen ducks about 7 weeks old. I was putting a tablespoon of brewers yeast in each cup of chicken crumbles and they were eating quite a bit. I have now started using a brewers yeast with garlic in it and now they pretty much won't touch the food. They probably eat maybe 20% of the amount they did before the switch. I'm wondering if I should just buy some regular brewers yeast and go back to that or if they will start to eat more if they get hungry? Along those same lines,I'm wondering will they absolutely not eat and starve themselves to death? I have no experience with ducks or chickens only a mini pig, but I have been doing alot of reading since I bought these ducks. Thanks.

They must not like the taste of garlic. I’d buy instead of Brewers yeast Nutritional yeast it has a good flavor and more niacin. 1 tab to each cup of feed you give. They may not starve but at 7 weeks they need a lot of nutrition so they need to eat.

Thanks, I just ordered some nutritional yeast. The brewers yeast was actually something I had on hand and used that and then I bought the brewers yeast "garlic flavored" and it's pretty garlicy (?). They seem to enjoy eating so much so I hate for them to not want to eat. For a treat I give them some mealworms (dried) from time to time. Most of the time they eat those from my hand. I'm trying to get them to be used to me but they are pretty timid. I'm getting to the point I can almost kind of pet them on their head. I'm also waiting to see if they're male or female. Right now they are in a cage in my spare bedroom but I almost have their outdoor house built, but here in southern Michigan it's still a little too cold at night for them to be outside but I think they are starting to go stir crazy in here. I'm hoping in a week or so they'll be ok outside in their house as far as keeping warm.

At that age they don't need additional supplements and if fed an all flock feed and allowed to graze daily they do fine.
I have never provided niacin to my Ducks and have never had issues. At 7 weeks Your Ducks should be eating a 16% protein feed.

I got Brewer's yeast with garlic and then was told to get the Nutrional yeast instead so I did for the ducklings. I have been putting the brewers yeast with garlic in my dogs food. She loves it
