Why do you look so surprised that someone is knocking on your door at 11:30PM? If that's not too late for your dog to be barking its head off, then it's not too late for visitors!

Oh dear.If it is a private drive and they are using it without permission, you have to tell them to stop. If they use it without permission for one year it can become a public right of way.
Thank you. It's always been used by the people who have cattle in the pasture behind our house. A relative (whom we really like!) extended it without our knowledge to provide access to his house beyond us, and then I guess from there to his near neighbor. I haven't been down it so I don't know exactly how he did it. FedEx and other traffic stop in the middle of our yard, in front of our house, completely confused, but apparently their GPS tells them to coninue on past us through the forest, so they do. Most of the traffic is now headed to the neighbor's, not to my nephew. It is your responsibility to put a stop to it.
If they asked for and got your permission to use it, you can remove that permission at any time.
Check with the county court house to see if a right of way has been recorded.Oh dear.

I was just going to say this as well. Also, see if there is an encroachment law or whatever it may be called where you live. Where no one is allowed on your property. Check into easements also. If one is not in place, they have no right to be driving on your private driveCheck with the county court house to see if a right of way has been recorded.
After years of illegal use, it may not be able to be stopped but since the relative did have permission to use it there may be legal recourse since he did not have the right to grant access to anyone else.
I suspect that there is no recorded right of way which gives you a starting point.
Roads cannot be altered or added willy-nilly. At the risk of alienating a family member - nip that in the bud now - LEGALLY!Oh dear.

Thanks, guys. I'll look into it. I'm sure the nephew meant well, he's a really good guy. I'll talk to him.Roads cannot be altered or added willy-nilly. At the risk of alienating a family member - nip that in the bud now - LEGALLY!
