im getting my first 2 chickens from a live poultry market because i want to rescue them from the tiny cages covered in poop that the place keeps them in. when i bring them home how long should i keep them quarantined? i have 2 large dog cages that they could stay until i know they are healthy, would that be alright for them until they move in to the coop i built? Should they both be together in the cage or each have separate cages? Is it best to give them a bath or will they be way to nervous?
i know you guys are gonna problem gonna say dont buy them because they will be filled with diseases, but i would much rather rescue a chicken then buy it from someone

Are they both coming from the same place? I would just keep them both in the same cage. For at least 30 days...that is just good practice.

Will you keep the cages separate from your chickens you have now. I would keep the cage totally separate from your current chickens. I would wait a day or two before you do any bathing...maybe put some sand and DE in something to let them dust bathe. I have used Sevin dust to dust new chickens but it's probably not the best thing for them. Then at the end of the separation period I'd worm them with wormer in their water. That's what I'd do. I say good for you, saving them

Good Luck!

they are both coming from the same place, and these are my first chickens so i dont have to worry about them giving other chickens diseases. And do you think that 1 month is enough time for them to be quarantined

Then there's no need to "quarantine" them. Dust the coop with poultry dust first, and plunk 'em in there. Unless you are going to get more chickens sooner than 30 days.... Since they're coming from the same place, those two can stay in the same quarters together.
