Bringing water in during an evening freeze

So, physics.
The larger the reservior of water, the longer it takes to freeze. The more it moves, the longer it takes to freeze. If its in an insulated container (glass, igloo plastic, etc...) the longer it takes to freeze. It takes a LOT of air to take any mass of water to frozen.
Makes complete sense! My water would probably be ok this week then overnight. Maybe I’ll leave it out tomorrow. Already brought in tonight lol.

Wow. The water doesn’t freeze that far below zero?

This is just a warmup to our winter. Here is the extended forecast. Occasionally we get a week of negative temps both day & night, so I figured I would purchase the anti-freeze plate before everyone in my area needed them and I couldn’t find one! Hopefully it won’t be a harsh winter, but will be ready just in case!

Oh if I didn't dump them out they would be a solid (or mostly solid) block by morning here.
I dump them since carrying 4 open dishes of water inside would be a terrible accident waiting to happen. It's easier for me to bring out jugs in the morning to refill them.

In your temps I think you will be ok leaving it outside.

I'm another southerner whose entire winter water plan is bringing the waterers inside on cold nights.

I've found that my nipple waterers don't freeze overnight when temperatures just barely dip below freezing for a few hours but I do need to bring them in if it's going down to 25F or so because that will create a skin of ice around the nipples.

@3KillerBs I envy your winter temps! Would make things so much simpler!

We purposely roofed our run, I’ll use straw bales to block the short sides & a tarp on the high sides. It’s next to a 6ft high wood fence so one side will remain fully open since the fence should block the wind. Keeping snow & wind out of the run, and bringing in bagged leaves I raked & stored is my maintenance plan, plus extra shavings on the coop floor.

That makes so much more sense 😂
