brining home the babies

Yes, bring a box. Heat depends on how many chicks and ambient temperature. 10 or more would probably be fine for that time. If you only have 5 or less, then bring something for them to snuggle under like old towel.

Should be fine. Just put something over the top to hold in their warmth, (need a few air holes though) and I find giving them a stuffed animal really helps. They like to snuggle with it for the first few weeks. I just remove it once it gets really soiled. Some people have said to use a feather duster. They will snuggle underneath it. Good luck with your new babies! If you need help with anything, this place is a gold mine of information & people willing to put in their 2 cents

some have even used the "hot hands" type hand warmers under the box, or under a towel in the box. But if you're only 35 minutes away, they should be fine

oh yeah

I picked up some today "on a whim" and didn't have a towel with me. It was chilly outside so I took off my sweater and wrapping the box in it. Sat it in the floor of the car and put on the heat. We had about a 20 minute drive and they were just fine. The box was of such size that it helped keep the six of them close together so that they stayed warm.
