Brinsea EcoGlow NOT warm enough for chicks!

Make shure to test the ecoglow to make shure its working properly , I got a mini eco bator and it just broke the first time I tried to use it I had to send it back . Brinsea from all I hear makes good products but that dosnt mean that one cant be defective once in awhle. I am so sorry you lost so many chicks. What else was diffrent about where those chicks were anythig?

I know this is an old post but did your chicks have a heat lamp first?

Reason I ask is mine were having a hard time changing to the new system because they were so used to the heat lamp. They didn't understand that they had to go under the pad. I had to keep putting them under it and it took about 10 tries before they came around.

Might be something to think about if they didn't know to go under it.

I have used ecoglows for over a dozen sets of chicks and have never even lost one. I think the ambient temp may have been too low? I have them in a room that never goes below 50. The ecoglow should be on the lowest setting for new chicks, as others have said. I have both the 20 and the 50 and use either depending on how many chicks I have. It was not meant to be used in a room that is less than 50, but I can vouch for it working fine in a room that's 55-60, as that's what I keep my house heat set to. :)
Do you know the exact height for the lowest setting? I have the smaller one and I don't see any settings, you just basically move the legs up and down. I had it pretty low, to the point it looks like the chicks might not fit under it and it seemed to only get to about 80 degrees. Trying to get it right before I add babies to the brooder.
