How likely is it that my thermometer is off? It's a brand new unit and this is my first time incubating. I don't have any other thermometers to test it with. It was holding beautifully at 37.5 (99.5) but the weather down turned and since then it's been holding at bang on 37 (98.6). I tried turning it up slightly but it's not made a difference to the thermometer, I'm reluctant to turn it up again as I don't want to fry the eggs if the thermometer is off.

Ideas?

I have the same kind of 'bator and have found the thermometer to be spot-on. I've also found that the temp adjustment screw isn't nearly as sensitive as the directions say. If it were me, I'd adjust the temp a little at a time until my thermo read 99.5 (and then be ready to adjust it back when the weather changes again). If i was giving advice, I'd say wait until you can double-check with a different thermo.

I would get another thermometer to test it with. When I first set my eggs the one with the unit was just under 100, but when I checked with another thermometer the temp at egg level was 102. I thought I had killed all my babies. I did get it adjusted so all 3 thermometers were reading on or just under 100, and I hatched out 9 sweet babies. I agree that the adjustment knob is not as touchy as they say, and wait 6-8 hours between adjustments. Good luck on your hatch.
