Just to keep it fair though let us remember that we are comparing apples and oranges.
The Brinseaonly sets 24 chicken eggs. The Hovabator sets 42 in the auto turner which by the way is a flawless little machine. The Brinsea Octagon 40 sets 48 chicken eggs but at a price of $489!!!! I can't afford to only set 24 eggs every month here in our short growing season.
I still fully intend to buy one of the smaller Octagon 20's for setting between my Hovabator hatches. The Brinsea is a great incubator for sure but I can't believe everyone totally gives up on the GQF products.
So, Brinsea at over $500 with a turner or the Hovabator at about $200?
But 2 Brinsea ECO 20 incubators would set a total of 48 eggs, 6 more than the Havobator and over $100 cheaper than buying the bigger Brinsea.
Just my thoughts.
My Eco gets here tomorrow, and I agree with the whole "buying two" option. If this incubator works well for me, I will get another in the future and be able to set just as many eggs.
My Brinsea got here today. I put it all together but haven't yet started it up. It will have eggs in it sometime next week. I may buy a second one in time. Need to get a good feel for this one.
To be honest now that I see this in person...anyone wanting the Brinsea but wanting to do more eggs and hesitant due to cost. Go without the auto turner. I did get it but now that I see that when turning eggs you turn the entire bator, how easy is that? Set it up to turn as soon as you wake up in the morning and right before bed, and find a time that you can remember during the day to do it then too. So for $200 plus some shipping you would be able to do 48 eggs at the same time, have a much sturdier bator and when doing your own eggs from your own flock you don't have to wait so long to get it started while they get older waiting to collect 48. Collect 24, start, collect another 24 start.
Just realized I am raving about a bator that I haven't even used yet. Just imagine what I will say once I get my first batch done.
Hey ,all I can say is buy what your money will let you.I got a Hooverbator 1588 and I love it.It has hatched right many eggs for me.And if you do have to have parts for it they don`t cost as much.I would really like to have a big cabinet one.But my money acts funny, lol.Maybe one day !!!! Good luck in making up your mind.Whatever you decide you will be happy,
Mine gets here tomorrow and I am so ridiculously excited that I cannot stand myself! I was not even this excited for my first bator! I have eggs arriving tomorrow too, just in time to rest for a day while the bator gets ready. I do have a backup just in case things go wrong, but I do not anticipate a problem
I got the autocradle too because between my animals, cooking, cleaning, 2 jobs and studying for my credentialling exam ... I just do not have time to breathe and do not want to have to worry about remembering to tilt the bator, lol. I will probably get a second one eventually too. Will have to see how it goes with one and go from there
that these things are all they are cracked up to be and we all have awesome hatches!
Great I know it is so nice to have one.And it is fun and exciting. What kind are you getting.Whatever kind you get it will be ok,as long as they hatch.Congrats on your eggs also,Happy Hatching!!!!
