I got my brinsea Octo 20 Eco setup and running...My question now is what TEMP should I go by? the thermometer that is built into the unit says just a tiny bit over 100F..my digital sitting on the rack says 100.4F and then I have a Brinsea Spot Check that I haver installed in a "water wiggler" and the temp in that says 98.9F

So...my question is..should I try and set the temp so that the digital and liquid thermometer read closer to 99.5F, or should I raise the temp so that my waterwiggler temp reads 99.5F??

Any input/advice would be most helpful.

Dan

I am afraid I am not going to be much help. The good news is that the eggs will hatch with all of those temps. Hope the bump helps.

I have the octa 20 and had the same type of questions. I chose to go with the glass therm that comes attached to the unit. It reads 99.5. We candled last night and 24 out of 25 eggs are veining and have chicks just a growing. IMO they wouldn't put those in there if they weren't reliable. Hope this helps, good luck.

I hatched 10 out of 12 shipped eggs last week in my brinsea 20. The therm. up top that came in the incubator reads about 101, the spot check and another therm, at egg level read 99.5. I had a good hatch with the temps I posted.

oh good I had the same question.Mine reads about 100 on the therometer that came with the unit,of course it is in the highest point of the bator, the other in/out ther.hygrometer digital reads 98.8 that one has a sensor that is resting on the bottom of the egg rack and the glass thermometer from walmart reads about 99.5 or just about 100. I figure the placement of the therm.makes a difference too

Mine is the same - thermometer it came with reads around 101.
My spot check thermometer reads 99.6 in amongst the eggs - I go by that and so far the eggs are developing just fine.

This is my first hatch in my new Brinsea and it was at 99 for a long time(maybe a week) but yesterday it got into the 80's outside so my upstairs(where the bator is)got pretty warm...the bator bumped up to 100.4 ...I waited it out and last night before we went to bed I had my Hubby adjust the temp down a smidge. This morning it's holding steady at 99. My digital is the one I look at not the glass one. Happy Hatching Everyone!!!

I believe Mary, "The Warden," had poor hatching due to the temp NOT being correct on the Brinsea. I would double check it with a reliable thermometer, such as the "Spot Check."

Correct Kathy, except it was in the digital Octagon Advance EX. The digital read-out said the temp was 99.5 but I was getting dismal hatches. I bought a spot check thermometer and found out it was actually only 96! Hubby did some re-calibrating after Brinsea refused to honor my warranty because I didn't mail in the warranty card. That's a whole other story. I have a Consumer Complaint case going and hopefully they will be forced to honor my warranty. I was one of the biggest supporters of Brinsea but I will not recommend them to anyone for fear that person will get the same treatment I got.

Anyway, after re-calibration and setting the temperature higher than 99.5 we have finally gotten the interior at egg height to 99.5 consistently. My hatches have been fabulous and have not lost a single egg since. On my ECO model my glass thermometer reads just over 100 degrees and the spot check reads 99.5 at the height of the eggs.

I would get a spot check or the Accurite (not Brinsea brand!) of the same thing and always double checking the temps. Good luck.

Yeah, I think I am going to go with what my spotcheck says...which at egg level is staying at 99.3...the liquid therm in the top is reading right around 101F...I have a flukers digital therm/hygrom in on the egg shelf too and it reads 99.7F and 45% Hum.

So..my next question for the Octogon 20 eco...how the heck do I get MORE water down in those two little slots when it needs some added?? Is it ok, to open the bator lid, take the egg rack out and fill them again when needed????
