British Araucana thread

Great news!! We are hoping to be grandparents (from Vespa's eggs) any day now. Chicks due on 28... Hopefully all 4 hatch. We've been candling the eggs and they all seem viable. One Araucana, one Ancona, one Wyandotte and a Mottled Peking bantam, should be a cute bunch!!!

Can I just ask if they fly well as I would like a pair of pullets and was wondering
They are a very light breed, so yes, they can fly quite well. Not like a normal bird, but they can definitely get quite a bit of height if they want to. My girl almost never tries to fly though, she's happy in her yard and never tries to jump the fences.

If you are concerned, you could clip their wings :)

I can't say exactly, I imagine it would vary between each bird. I haven't clipped my Araucana's wings. My fences are roughly 6 feet tall, and I believe she could get to the top of that if she really tried. She is happy in the pen she has though, so not once has she ever tried to jump the fences, even though she could if she wanted to.

If they have plenty of space and you keep them happy, then they shouldn't make any escape attempts.
