Broader size

1x1.5ft brooder box ok for 3x day old chicks?
Hi,
How many chicks do you have and are they bantams or will they be large fowl when grown up?
You need 1/2 a sq. ft. per chick at this age. As they grow, you will need 1 sq. ft at 3-4 weeks and 1.5 sq. ft. per chick from 3-5 weeks old.
Best,
Karen

Stupid windows 10 won't let me spellcheck above post.
1. 1/2 sq ft. from hatch to 1 week old.
2. 1 sq. ft. per chick from 1 to 3 weeks old. 1.5 sq. ft. per chick from 3-5 weeks old.
Best,
Karen

Yes, that size brooder should work to start them off. becareful of the heat tho. That's a small broodr and not anywhere that they can really escape the heat of theyget hot. Just use a 60 watt incandescent bulb. Rig it so you can raise and lower it as the chicks need more or less heat. Do nt use a 250 red heat bulb, it is much too hot for them in that small brooder.

Would a 50watt black ceramic heat emitter sitting approx 40cm above work for this?

Ok I have a box thats 1.7x2.7ft that would work better that gives the correct space requirement
