The woman who sold me my australorp pullets sed they couldt eat start mash or layer pellets but Had to have grow crumbles.
(Ishould have read here first)
I accidentally got Broiler grow." From age 2-3Weeks until slaughter."
19% protien...
Does:es: anyone know if it is alright for my 8 wk old pullets??
TIA

The woman did not completely give you good advice. She is correct about not feeding layer feed at this age because it has additional calcium to help laying birds form egg shells, but it is too much for the developing organs of babies who are NOT needing to form an egg shell a day.

Where she is wrong is about feeding chick starter. Chick starter comes in two forms: medicated and non-medicated. The medicated contains Amprolium and can be fed to chicks up to 8 weeks of age, but is not recommended as a permanent diet for them. However the non-medicated starter can be fed at any age.

To answer your original question though, the broiler grower should be fine for them, so I wouldn't stress to much. When they've emptied that bag, you might want to get a regular grower formula but what you have certainly isn't going to hurt them.

You start with chick, then switch to 15% grower, then laying mash. The logic of the 15% grower with less protein is that the chicks will not not grow too fast and have egg bound and other problems when they start laying.Grower is an appropriate middle growth feed for layers.

Broiler feed is formulated for fast growth. I would mix it with a 14% or 15% grower feed if the broiler feed can't be returned to reduce the carbohydrates and protein in the broiler feed.

Thank you all,I will put them back on starter, which we have.
And use the broiler grow for the cockerels destoned for the pot.
