We had a hen hatch one chick and abandon the nest. She scattered the eggs and buried them in the coop. I gathered them a few times just to have her scatter them again. After about 4 days I went to collect them and one had pip'd and was full of dirt - but to my surprise it's little beak moved! I put it in a plastic bin with a heat lamp and wrapped it in a wet paper towel for 20 hrs and thanks to waiting, waiting, waiting it hatched! I only had to assist it slightly.

I had gathered the other eggs and found 2 with small breaks in the area of the air sack. They have also been in the bin since I found the hatching egg. I have not seen any movement and I tried to candle the eggs but really didn't get what I was seeing but for the air sack. This morning I decided to check on them as they had the damage. I carefully removed the broken area to see in. The first egg wasn't fully developed or viable. The second one had the same hole and a crack running partially down the egg. I checked this one and to my surprise I found the little peeper moving around a little bit in the second membrane, but it looks like the membrane might be drying. I put it back in the bin and covered with a wet paper towel. Anyone have suggestions for next steps?

I hope that it's not too late for this, but I've just been reading a lot about this situation. Is the membrane broken? Is the membrane still slightly moist? If the membrane is white, you may have to intervene. There is a thread about shrink wrapped chicks on this site at: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491421/shrink-wrap-vs-sticky-chick Here's another one https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/599160/hatching-process-after-pip

I also watched this video on Youtube

I hope that this helps

For cracked eggs that are still incubating I've used wax dripped on to seal, after I sanitized the area.

For sticky chick (just dealt with this) i used warm running water and a small amount of dawn. Worked perfect. The wet paper towel didn't help with mine unfortunately.
