broken eggs

Good evening all! I had a question of concern that maybe someone might have an answer to. My hen is a new layer and has been laying in her nest every day for a few weeks religiously. She can't wait to get out of her coop to go run to her nest in the woods. But the past week she has been laying her egg in the coop before i can go let them out in the A.m. And when i go open the coop the egg is usually right by the door crushed or broken somehow. Does anyone know whats going on????

My suggestion is to provide a nest inside your coop as well. This way when your hen needs to express an egg, she can find the comfort of a nest near by. It is gravity that may be the culprit.. Hen lays , and the egg contacts the hard surface, and you have broken shell. Other option is a stampede of the other chickens trying to get out.

My hen is a new layer and has been laying the egg usually crushed or broken somehow. Does anyone know whats going on????

She maybe laying the egg from a roost during the night I have my poop board 3½ from my roost catches any egg delivered at that time.

That might be whats going on. Cause they roost on a pretty high perch.
