Broken eggs

I occasionally leave a few eggs for the broody hens to hatch. Lately I have been finding at least one broken egg a day. What's up with that? I've been at this for almost two years and never had this problem before.

The broody hens may have decided to fight over who gets to cover the eggs suddenly now. I would watch them a while, and see if this is what is happening.
