about 3.5 weeks ago her leg was crushed when moving a chicken tractor and appears to be broken at the “ankle”
She was immediately isolated and given a place to rest. We tried splinting her leg and she’d try to move around a bit, but would ultimately lay down. She has had floating baths and rebandaging the wound regularly.
She was laying eggs for awhile after the incident, but isn’t anymore.
She’s eating and drinking and poop is normal.
She seemed to be in more pain last week and eating less and acting depressed, so vet prescribed metacam and she perked up with that. This weekend when I rebandaged her, her foot looked black and stiff from the break down.
Vet has not examined her, but going on my description has said foot is dying and options are amputate or put her down… said that she’s in too much pain even with metacam.
I can’t afford surgery to amputate, and don’t want her to suffer, but don’t want to end her life if she has a chance to pull through this either.
Any suggestions? Is putting her down the most humane choice?
We only had her a few days before the accident, but she’s a sweet girl and I feel awful.

If she eats and drink she's not in too much pain. The leg should fall off on its own eventually. If she eats and drink it means she wants to live, so don't lose your hopes!
