At 1:30 am my boyfriend woke me up because he heard the chickens acting up. We ran out there to find a raccoon in the coop (broke in through a hole the size of my fist). We lost our baby girl brown who was the last original we got 3 years ago. My heart is heavy ... she was the sweetest

Chickens have zero night vision and are most vunerable after dark.
I free range during the day with 3 guardian dogs and i loose a few anyway, but i never loose any at night as they are locked up tight in a secure coop.
One weasel gets in your coop (thru a hole the size you think only a mouse can fit) and he will kill for fun every bird in the coop.
I hope you lock down your birds against night time maurders and you dont loose any more.

Thank you. I am aware they don't have night vision. My pen is completely secure. Raccoons unfortunately are extremely smart and where I live they are building so much and taking down all our surround natural woods that it is pushing these nasting creatures towards my home and towards my chickens safe haven.
