Broken Leg?*Update-Please Help*

ok, just checked on her...she's sleeping still. Breathing very slowly, and the Limpy that's in the box with her is peeping quite loudly. He's next to her... Her head is still down, eyes closed.
At this point, just wait on the medicine, right? Is this cocci, just saw blood that one time on Saturday, was sure it came from Limpy not her... Is she suffering?

The polyvisol will not interfere with the sulmet... yes keep offering the live culture yogurt.
If you cook human oatmeal (just in plain water in the microwave) and add JUST enough to the chick starter to make it moist and to the point where it JUST clumps a bit together (no more) > you dont need grit for just the cooked oatmeal (that is necessary for feed grade oats non-cooked)
in a 2x4 rabbit cage with a wire floor, with a paper towel under the heat lamp to rest their little feet.

do you have any other type of cage withOUT a wire floor? In particular do not use that with Limpy... I thought I saw a bit of swelling in the photos ... you dont want any more strain on that leg and even if you put down paper towels >at that age they rip that right up and are down to the wire floor again. I'd put a cardboard "floor down if you absolutely cant find anything else to keep them in and on top of that shavings or coarse sand with paper towels on top of that.

The petstore (bird section) should have a (non-aerosol pump type) anti-parasite spray for cage birds which you can use on your chicks (protect the eyes and nares...
I would give Limpy four not two drops of the polyvisol for a week then taper off the next

If you can possibly afford to do so, I would also order some aviacharge 2000 for these birds > this is a complete balanced vitamin / mineral supplement which you can order online from McMurry...

Thank you!
I've put Limpy and the other sick little one in a cardboard box with their own heat lamp. I've put down several layers of paper towels I keep changing out to keep it as sterile as possible... Limpy was doing much better til I did that.

Now, the smallest one is still sleeping and Limpy is laying next to her, peeping his head off. Just got back from picking up the Sulmet and am checking back to make sure I use it correctly...

Should I dose all of them, even the 2 that *appear* to be better, now in their own cage? They're all in the same bathroom, tho-to keep my 2 1/2 yo out, lol.

That peeping is bothering me - he's asking for something. Are they two of them huddled pretty close - think he might be too cool?

On the sulmet, before you give it, how are their droppings now? Are they runny or at all mucousy? I'd really like to see what they'd do on the oatmeal that dlhunicorn suggested. I think it might give them some energy, along with the vitamins etc. I think she needs fuel at least - she should be eating several times a day. That might perk her up a bit.

this is the littlle pitiful one. I've got a heat lamp w/ a 75 watt reptile bulb on it for them. I believe the droppings are Limpy's-I don't think this little one has eaten all day. She didn't move when I picked up the little stuffed doggie toy I put in there to take the pic...

I'll try the oatmeal, anything at this point.

The little one is dead. Thank you to all that helped, especially Natalie (three horses).

Oh no, I'm so sorry.

I was so afraid this might happen, and yet I just was hoping it wouldn't. You've worked hard on them, bless your heart. My condolences.

So what will you do with little Limpy now? I get kinda attached to these little guys when I read about them. How are his droppings and stuff now? Is he still peeping.

Again, I'm so terribly sorry. I wish I could have been better help.

Aw, thank you. Last night was tough, but I know inevitably, when we surround ourselves with life, we also must face death...
I put Limpy (I've got to come up with a better name!) with the others even though I was worried about him - but he did seem really lonely. So far this morning, they're all alive and eating. They all appear to be bright eyed and alert, so I'll just keep an eye on them.
I did go ahead and put some of the Sulmet with jello in the water. I'd just rather be safe than sorry at this point. I know the big Silkie is probably male, here's hoping Limpy isn't too.
Thank you so much for all of the advice. I cooked up some oatmeal to mix in w/their stuff last night and they all loved it - they prefer to eat off the plastic spoon than their little bowl. Buggers.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I think I needed to hear your message today as I lost my oldest turkey yesterday, Picksey - my avatar turkey likely to blackhead. I just got the meds in 2 days before but the pen she needed had to have a day to dry since I had geese in it that I released. I found her last night and then, when I picked up a young bird she flipper her wing and dislocated the joint which popped through her skin.

Why do we have poultry again? /tired wink

She's going to the vet today, but the point is that it doesn't matter how many years you do this - there's always some things that don't go right. The good outweighs the bad with poultry - if you let it. But the heartaches can get trying.

I'll make you a deal. I'll go out and be very thankful for the ones I have that are healthy, if you'll do the same. Yes? And I'll be just as thankful for your little healthy ones and that you took in those babies. You really are a blessing to them.

OK, off to go change and take my own sad gal in. Wish us luck, please.
