Broken Leg Versus Sprained Leg?

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: I put the second gimpy in the bin with the other chicks this evening and watched them to make sure she didn't get trampled to hurt. She perked up all of a sudden. She went right to the feeder then went over to try and cuddle with the other chicks for a nap. I took her back out at that point because the other chicks like to climb on each other at bedtime to cuddle up. Awww.

She's just so tiny. She was the second smallest of the group and now she's definitely the smallest. She feels frail, but doesn't show any signs of any issues (other than pasty butt as I stated in my last post). Maybe she'll catch up with her growth once the leg heals and I can put her back with the others. The first gimpy (the silkie) is all better now, but I've kept her in he bin with the second gimpy for company. She's been such a sweetie. She cuddles with the other gimpy and doesn't seem to mind being in the bin with the second gimpy.

Don't worry, I'm sure she'll catch up someday. Below is my Delilah, my "slow" chick. At one point she was half the size of the others, and looked so frail. Now she is HUGE, and quite feisty--she'll bite me if I don't get the treat plate down fast enough! Everyone comments on how pretty she is.

The second gimpy isn't doing good. I just went home to check on the babies and she's really weak and wheezing. She also sounds like she clicks when she's breathing plus she's breathing heavy.

I gave her an extra-diluted doze of Poly-Vi-Sol (only the second doze I've given her in the past week)...extra-diluted as in two parts water, one part vitamins. I held the dropper near her beak and let the drop roll onto the tip of her beak. She took it in, but then seemed to choke on it a little. After a few pitiful minutes of what seemed like sneezing or coughing, she settled down. She didn't panic or anything.

Hopefully that will help (and hopefully I didn't OD her), but I have a very bad feeling that she won't be alive when I get home from work tonight. My poor baby.

Oh dammit! the chick I spent so much time rehabbing the leg, got him walking correctly after wearing his little bandaid rubber band sling for two days. gave him a jar lid with 1/4 in water in it. He was drinking a few sips and looking good.
left him for a few min, came back and he's dead halfway across the brooder with bubbles. drowned.

how stupid is that! I should have taken the water away when I left him. poor dumb little thing. I had just started to let myself like his pluck. My husband looked like he was near tears.

we also lost another Mille and a maran last night. Both of them were in the "not thriving" stage and kept separate from the healthy chicks. Both the two last to hatch, one was just weaker than the others, othe other clicked when she breathed and after 4 hours still couldn't stand.

still have plenty of healthy chicks just a little sad for my lost ones.

Now I just have 3 in my "needs watching" area of the brooder.

I was right...the little one didn't make it through the day. She was gone when I got home from work. She was on her back...now she has her little plot in the yard with the other chickens that have left us.

Rest in Peace little toe nipper.

The little silkie is great!

She's all over the place in the bin with the other chicks and isn't limping at all. The little ones will be 2 weeks old tomorrow, so I think from here on out (barring any more leg injuries), they'll be just fine. Thanks everyone for your advice and support...the BYC is wonderful!!!!

My chicken black betty just started limping today, its not bramble foot, not swollen, and she is putting some weight on it. She is eating and drinking fine. I checked for thorns and felt her leg and it doesn't feel broken. I gave her 1/4 of a dog asprin. Can someone tell me what to do please!

Can someone help me please. I'm an Englishman leaving in SW France, and no knowledge of chickens is very limited.
I'm sure my problem is the same a many previous, but I'm too old to start going through pages of advice.
Our 4 month old hen was attacked by one of terriers. This happened 3 days ago. The advice I got from the French was to kill it, as any vet charges would be more than I paid for bird.
The bird(Katie) has now started to move about, but she walks on her knuckles. She eats and drinks very well.
I can send a video, but normally when I try and do video, it never works.
Has Katie broken something, is it a sprain, and what should I do?
Regards Nick
