Hello,
This isn't a chicken question, but I'm hoping someone with experience in broken legs with poultry chicks can offer some advice:
I have a 3wk old baby parrot that I'm currently rehabilitating, he was born with severe splay leg and so we used vet wrap to wrap his little legs together to try and fix that. He's had the wrap on for several days now, and I took it off last night because it as getting dirty and to avoid bandage sores. I was holding him a few minutes ago and trying to gently have him stand with his legs together, as we usually do, but I don't know if he got his nail caught on my shirt or what, but he fluttered his wings then I heard an awful little "snap" and he started screaming. I felt along his leg and I think the break is in his tarsus. I feel so awful, we're going to try to bring him to the vet tomorrow, but does anyone have any suggestions on pain relief methods/support that they've used in chicks? I have his leg lightly wrapped with vet wrap right not to help stabilize it and he's sleeping.
