One of my chicks legs is twisted, it hops around on the other, still eats and drinks. The joint on the broken leg is very swollen and may ne infected. I wash it twice a day with an antiseptic and put betadine on it as well as a bandaid, my question is should I attempt to snap it back in place? Should I just let it heal seeing as she can manage without it? Is there special foods that help with bone development? And will she be ok with one leg later in her life?

hello sorry to hear about your problem, is there an external wound? if so if you think there may be an infection I would probably give her some penicillin to help fight the infection, I have no personal experience with broken legs but I know someone who taped up a broken leg with electrical tape and said it took several months to heal but says you would never know anything ever happened to her leg, you say hers is broken at the joint? that may make it tricky, sorry I can't be of more help.

i think its broken, its sticking out at an odd angle, it dose have a wound but it is healing over now. im not sure if the leg is broken, i can move the leg around a bit but i dont want to hurt the poor thing seeing as she is only 5 days old. im thinking about taking her to a vet... i rescued this chicken from a child care center so im guessing a child may have dropped her. I want to try everything i can to help her, even though ill just end up re homing her when she is better. id rather treat her my self as much as i can before i cop out huge vet bills to save a chicken im not even going to keep. she is eating, drinking, exploring and sleeping fine at the moment though.

I have a chick that has a broken foot. My dog got a hold of it, no external damage. She is still up and about eating and drinking. So far so good. Her foot is just bent sideways, so she kinda walks on her ankle. I feel bad for her, but at least she is up and moving around, and seems to be doing ok. I will just watch to make sure she doesn't get a sore on the part of her foot that she is walking on. We'll see how she does...

Good luck to yours. But as long as theres no external wound, your bird should have pretty good luck as long as they are up eating and drinking.
