Broken nail fixed

Our little Chipmunk managed to break a nail off right at the quick. Bled a lot and was very painful! Poor little one. She did not want to be separated from the flock and started panting in panic when we put her in the dog kennel in the run. We cleaned the toe with soap and warm water, and eventually it stopped bleeding. The next morning it looked a bit better, but still pretty raw. It started bleeding again when she started scratching around. This is where our paramedic son came in! He suggested cleaning it and applying iodine, and then painting over the wound with super glue. Weird, but apparently super glue is commonly used instead of stitches to close a wound. The wound was well cleaned so we weren't trapping in any dirt. It worked like a charm! She can dig now without any bleeding, and less worry about infection.

Sometimes that does happen. Mine tend to heal up on their own, but we are pretty sandy here.
