So yesterday we were doing some work around my chicken run. And my Buff Orpingtons nail somehow broke and she bled for quite some time. Even through lots off syptic powder and pressure.
After i got the bleeding to stop she sat puffed up not moving so i did bring her into our basement last night in a medium sized tote with food and water. And this morning she was fine and it now back in the flock.

I had a wyandotte loose her whole nail last year and it took less time to stop bleeding then my Orpington who lost a bit of her nail.

What can i have on hand in case as syptic powder didnt work quickly. And she did loode quite a bit of blood

Thanks

Usually they stop bleeding on their own, but you can use blood stop powder or flour as well as the styptic. It is painful for a week or so.

Ok thank you!
Hers bled for a long time. I had put her in the coop by herself for a bit after using some syptic powder and there was quite a bit in the bedding. along with all over her.

You can use corn starch to stop bleeding very quickly! Other than that you did everything right!
One of my silkies lost her nail as well!
To help it grow back, I waited until there was a scab, then applied some human nail growth serum and kept them inside for a little bit (this was a show silkie). I gave her vitamins such as Nutridrench and vitamin B in a mash 5-6 times a week, and this helped it heal quickly!
Your chicken was most likely just puffed up due to the shock of this experience.
I would just keep a eye on her to make sure the toe is healing but other than that she should heal just fine!

I didn't even think of cornstarch. Thank you!

Luckily she didnt loode her whole nail only part of it.

My other chicken that did loose her full nail has grown it back by herself
