Broken Neck?

Is it possible for chickens to fall off their roost and just break their necks in the middle of the night?
I just found my sweet 9 month dead in the coop this morning. No way anything got in there. Everyone esle is fine, just squawking like mad.
It looks like her neck is broken and she just fell off the roost. No blood, no internal organs prolapsed.
I can't take another freak loss like this for my kids. We were planning on hatching our eggs after vacation in the spring. I sent some of her eggs to the Ag projec.t some of you have seen on here and they are supposed to hatch today or Monday.
How sad.
I guess it is part of owning chickens in your backyard.

I guess anything is possible. Could be heart attack too. Maybe something scared your flock. These guys can stress quite a bit.

I had one this happened to. Mine looked like she was trying to fly up and ran into the back wall of the coop. Found her the next morning with neck bent backwards

She was a RiR and the only loss I've had. It happens sometimes.
