My 9 week old barred rock pullet some how managed to break one of her toe nails partially off. I found out about it because I found a blood trail that led to her. I looked at it and it appears that just the tip is broken off and the quick is exposed, but there is also some blood coming out underneath where the nail meets the nail bed.

I held onto her for about 10 minutes with the the foot elevated and I put some pressure on the area and kept her calm so that the blood would coagulate. The bleeding has stopped and I put her back on the ground with the other girls and she went right to laying down in the dirt.

Do I need to do anything else?

The bleeding is stopped I am just worried about the location - as it will be exposed to more pressure, poop, dirt, etc.

I am going to go take a picture and upload.

Thanks!!

I think that a spray of Wound Kote would help and a daily check to make sure that it is bug free and infection free. Use the Wound Kote til it scabs sufficiently to keep dirt out.

As long as an infection doesnt set it, she should be fine
