One of my quail got itself wedged between the wire of its cage and a large plant pot. My dog then pressed on the wire.
Result, one broken quail.
He lay in the pen for a day or two, only moving to eat and drink but as he seemed happy enough I left him to see how he would get on. I know well how very tough coturnix are.
And other than his back looking a very odd, downward pointing angle from about midway, he has been fine. Eating and drinking and running about with the flock. A little less agile than the rest but other than that, no worries.
But now he has a large pocket of softness along his right side.
He still seems happy and it would be a shame to just cull him for no reason. Any ideas why he is swelling up? And will it go away as softly as it has come on him or will I need to suck it out or what?
