1) She's a amercanus, about 8-10 wks old.
2) Her toe is broke at the knuckle, I think. if it were a hand, it would be the little finger, broken at the knuckle at the palm. The base of her foot (the palm) is swollen and very warm. The toe doesn't spread out, it remains close to the middle toe. I think she can spread it under duress, but it seems very painful . She doesn't like to walk on it, she holds it up. But she can curl her toes.
3) There is a scrape/cut.
4) She either got it caught in the fence, or one of the horses stepped on her foot.
5) She has a normal appetite
6) She has normal poop.
7) I cleaned it with peroxide and then sprayed fura-zone (the yellow stuff for horse cuts) on it. The guy I bought her from said not to splint it, just keep an eye on her. But he may prefer that I would need to buy another chicken from him, so I need a second opinion.
8 ) My friend offered to help me with splintingif she needs it.
9) She won't stand still, and when I pick her up, she curls her toes, so I haven't been able to get a pic. Video might work?
10) They are free range, but cooped at night. They sleep in the hay during the day, and on top of their nesting boxes at night. (Go figure. )
The other chicken (I only have two) is being very motherly toward the injured chicken. Yes, I named them. Babs has the broken toe, Fifi is motherly.
Thanks in advance for the help!
