Hi guys! I have had a few instances where both my ducks started limping and I noticed a broken toenail.

For instance- today my little Twinkie was limping and I noticed his outside toenail was real short like it broke. I have an epsom salt film I put on any issues I notice with their feet and it normally clears it right up. I just want to make sure that’s the right thing and nothing else needs to be done.

Also does this happen often? I mean they are crazy little ducks and forage near and far. I am not surprised this has happened a couple times this far, just hate seeing them limp or in any pain whatsoever.

They are my babies!!!

I had a silkie hen that had the end of her toe half connected, half hanging there. She must've got it caught in something unknown as where they free range, there are no fences.

I ran her over to my farmer neighbor to ask what to do. I wondered if I should cut it off. She said no, leave it be as it will be healing as it removes itself. She was right. I never had to do anything more.

If it's an open wound though, I'd have put triple antibiotic ointment on it, wrapped it, and kept her confined for a couple of days so it got a chance to heal and not get infected.

I would walk around the area your ducks are the most and look for anything they could be catching their feet on. If they have a pond, maybe use a metal rake and rake along the shoreline where their feet would touch.
