I just took home a barred rock hen today. She has a twisted leg that sticks straight out to the side. The owners were going to kill her but I thought that maybe I could offer her at least a confortable place to live. The previous owner said her leg has been like that for a while. which makes me concerned that if it's a sprain that it might be too late to fix it. If it's broken do I need to amputate it to make her more comfortable? Also she was being picked by the other hens, but that isn't a problem here. She is hobbling around just fine, but seems to be in a lot of pain. I will post some pictures tommorrow, it's too dark right now. She seems really friendly and sweet so I want to do the best thing for her, and hopefully she can have a happier life. If anyone has some ideas on what is the best thing for her please help me, I am new to owning chickens, but I just felt bad for this one.

When you post pics it will help us give you better suggestions. Here is a chair I make for some of my handi-cappers to take pressure of their limbs. Pretty simple and inexpensive, but useful.
