Broken wing

Awesome, thanks.

Should i change the wrap as it gets dirty? Would unwrapping mess up the wing further?

Honestly I have no idea. I would think dirty bandages would be of lesser importance than healing the bone, but I really have no clue.

ladycrotalus, any updates on how your hen is doing? Yesterday I noticed one of my silkies has an apparent broken wing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Somehow she managed to get her wing out from under the wrap. It looks like it healed weird but it doesn't seem to be causing any discomfort. It isn't dragging either.

Can anyone tell me how o tell the difference between a broken, dislocated or sprained wing? I have no idea how this happened!!! My barred rock was fine all day yesterday but right before bedtime I noticed her wing was suddenly drooping. I picked her up and she tried getting away but that wing would not flap at all. I wrapped it with vet wrap today because she was having problems walking, she is eating and drinking. She seems normal just not as talkative today. I have been giving her some extra protein? Is this good?

A break is a crack or fracture of the bone, sprain is soft tissue damage. That being said,if you open wing and she can return wing to body, probably a sprain. If you open wing and it cannot return to body, just hangs probably broken. If broken,i would follow instructions on this thread. Keep her quiet and calm,

I wrapped it with vet tape, so it's close to her body in natural position. She was on her perch tonight and I saw her eating and drinking.
