That should be fine. Pine shavings are good too.
I start them off for a few days on paper towels before I switch to shavings but most use shavings from the start.
Aspen is what excelsior is made from which makes good nest pads.

Fab thank you for replying , I have paper towels down at the minute as it says they are good for the first couple of days x
