Brooder Box Heat

For my brooder box I have a heat lamp, or I could use something that would simulate a mother chick, like a heat mat or something of that sort. I've read that broody hen's chicks go broody more often. While chicks raised in a brooder box and heat lamp do not go broody as often. Any insight would be helpful! Thank you!!

I’ve never heard of that and can’t see much truth to it. Mainly the key factor in broodiness is breed. Who’s more likely to brood, a Leghorn or Silkie? Brooding with heat mats, heat plates or a ceramic bulb is more recommended than a light emitting heat lamp. It’s healthier on their eyes and behaviour.

The chick genetics and breed are going to determine tendencies of broodyness, not manner of chick rearing.
If you want non broody chickens go with leghorn breeds.
