Brooder, grit, coop age and more questions.

That was my first thought that I'm going to ask about. It would probably be better if they had a little of the exact brand they've been eating anyway to help them transition. Thank you.

question #1 how many chicks are you getting? your kennel will work good for a brooder for maybe 2 or 3 chicks.
#2 we have RIR's and Sexlinks, they went into the coop at 3 weeks. we gave them a heat lamp just in case of cold weather.
#3 they don't need to go without food. food needs to be available 24/7. water also.
#4 sand works great as grit, just not play sand. use construction, or building sand.
hope you have great luck with your chicks.

Thank you for your reply. I am getting 2. Plus they will not be confined to the brooder 24/7, it's really warm and I asked on here before, people said it's okay if I let them play outside a little bit. When they're adults they're going to be mostly free range anyway.

Why won't the play sand work as grit for chickens if it was okay for quail? Too small? (I'm talking about the quickrete brand, not the all silica type.)
