Brooder height

I had one get out in the basement, I had it in to keep another company. So I just opened the walkout basement door so he could go back with it's mother. It flew out the door, took a left for 50ft and up 30 or 40ft to a tree top. 4wk old but had been raised outside by mom.

Ah that answers my follow up question about if an open top brooder would be stupid. Thanks.

I had a stock tank with a door screen over it... I lifted to add food and quick as a flash out and about.... but it was basically wild and never was handled.

You can probably use an open top brooder for the first two weeks. By the time my poults are two weeks old, they are out of the brooder and into the grow out pen.
