how many chicks do you want? need about 1/2 foot space for each chick at first, use a big cardboard box and a heat lamp ( 250 watt red bulb) about 18 inchs from floor to maintain a temp of 95 for first week, then cut back heat 5 deg each week till you reach 70 deg, by bringing light up in air from them. need chick starter feed, and small waterer for them to drink out of

Our brooder is approx. 2 1/2 feet by 4 feet, and is almost 30 inches high. We used a 250 watt red bulb to heat it.

If I were you I would test out the temps in the brooder when you have it built before your chicks come. Less to worry about when they arrive.

Also there are lots of great threads on here with examples of brooders.

Hope this helps!
