Want to use a heat emmiter and a thermocube. I know that one should use a ceramic lamp socket. My question is. The brooder lamps one buys at the feed store seems to be ceramic on the outside, but plastic on the part where the bulb screws on. Am I correct? Has anyone else used these?. Thanks

Some of them have phenolic sockets. They are still safe as the phenolic is heat resistant. Look for a UL listed brooder and don't exceed the specified lamp rating.

Don't forget to buy or fashion a guard to go over the bulb so the chickens can't burn themselves by flying up into it.
