Brooder Questions

I am getting between 25-30 chicks in March, with 5 or 6 different breeds. These are going to be breeding stock, so I want them separate. That, of course, raises the issue of 6 different brooders. Keeping 6 brooders clean is going to be tough, but could I use wire on the floor so that the poop falls through? How much space will 6 chicks need?

They will be out of the brooder when they feather out...well before mating. You can have them all in one brooder then separate them in breeding pens when they get older. The added benefit is less to clean and feed as everything will be in the same spot.

Raising them on wire then moving them to the ground can cause problems due to not becoming immune. If your raising breeding stock or whatever there is no need to brood them separately. Just separate them into their coops when they are feathered out.
