Today my 4 year old son tripped and fell on one of the 3 Bantam chicks we got for him to help raise. It's still breathing, and will drink a little from a dropper, but I really don't think it will make it. We're pretty tough around here, but even I'm a little choked up about it, just the tragedy of it all and seeing him cry about it. I feel personally responsible and wish I hadn't set him up for something like this to happen. Little Skunkie can pick his head up a little, but hasn't opened his eyes since the accident. The only reason I'm still slightly optimistic is that I once revived two tiny ducklings that had been dunked and were practically catatonic.

As sad as this is, I am sure you are most worried about comforting your son and making sure he does not feel at all like he did anything wrong. He is so young he hopefully isn't really too aware of the correlation. But at 4 he is wise enough to know. But my boys so often don't remember things that I was sure they would remember from when they were little (they are now 19 & 20).

I hope the little one makes it and I will be thinking about you and your family - I just hate these kinds of things. They are so heart rending.

So sorry to hear this! When my chicks a few weeks old as well my dog (Boston Terrier) got at them while they were having some free time outside. He shook one and I thought for sure she was dead. It took almost 2 weeks of feeding and giving water with a baby dropper but she pulled through! She def. had some damage done though - she still has lots of her baby feathers and get's stuck in corners and sometimes just falls over for no reason. She is now 1 year old and is as big as her sisters but def. not right in the head and not laying any eggs.
