How does my brooder setup look. It is 34" x 34". The hot spot is 100' and the cool is 85'. Is this ok. I should have some chicks coming out soon.

PS They are going to look like ants in there they are so little BUT they grow very fast!

I think 100 is too high--try 90 degrees for the hot spot at one end because they really don't need all that heat. Decrease it by 5 degrees each week, but also watch them. Your brooder will be way too small in 2 weeks. Mine was just like yours but 48 x 48 inches, and it gets crowded for just 35 chicks to stay in for 5 weeks. Nice job on the brooder.

Everything I have read on here says 100. Now I am confused.

I know that it will get very crowded soon. I have a neighbor that has the metal GQF brooders. He has about 7 and is gonna sell me 2 of them for $100 a piece.

I think that is a good deal. At least better than buying new and paying that daggone shipping.

I would start them around 95° and then lower 5° per week as suggested. We have started using puppy "pee pads" on the bottom. They work great and are easy to change.

I would have the heat source at one end of the brooder box around 90-95F. The chick will move away from the heat if it getting too hot. 100F is little too hot for a small brooder box. It should work fine if in the very large box.
