Brooder temp for chicks

I keep my house at 70 F
and have two brooders
reading about 78-79f

Fuzzzy chick and K&H termo brooder are the brands

Heat plates (I assume these are plates) work by direct contact, as long as they're warm/hot to the touch they should be working as intended since the ambient temperature is consistent.

I used heating plates this year. They work perfectly. I will never want to use a heatlamp again. I never checked the temperature of mine but it felt warm to the touch. It wasn't hot enough to hurt to hold your hand on it. But it felt pretty warm. My youngest are 4 weeks old now so I'll have to clean them and put them away for this year. Unless I buy more chicks later no I really have plenty. But there's always room for more. Ok, maybe not but I like to imagine that.
