Brooder temp for quail

Does anyone know what the temp in the brooder needs to be for quail? Right now my temp in the brooder is about 92-93 degrees. I can't get it to go any higher. If I use a red heat lamp it gets way to hot, but then my other brooder light doesn't get up to 99 degrees. Any suggestions?

You can put a blanket over top of the brooder to keep drafts out, this willkeep the heat in longer and should raise the temps a lil more

99.5 for the first few days, then you can lower as they grow.

they feather in fast and funny too my A&M are about 2 1/2 weeks maybe 3 and look. I love how thier heads have no feathers still

Your quail chicks will tell you if they need more heat. They will pile and cheep constantly. I have never had a thermometer in my brooders. I just watch and see how they behave. Like was mentioned earlier, make sure you have them protected from drafts. I guess they are like kids, after a few hatches it will all be easier!

The temp is up to 91, and we put towels over the top of the brooder to try and make it warmer. My last to hatches did not go well at all. My first hatch They got two hot, and died. The second hatch they were to chilled and died. I felt so bad. I really hope that this works out. We hatched out 60 quail in all. I will have to keep a close watch on these little ones.

Quail chicks are the same as chicken chicks. Start at about 95F, sometimes mine are more comfortable at 100F for a few days, and slowly lower. Quail just feather faster so you can lower the temp faster. Usually by the end of the first week I have gone from a 60 to 40w bulb and by 3 weeks they barely have any heat with just a 25w bulb. If the quail are piling under the middle of the bulb they are too cold, if they are running around and sleeping in a ring off the center of the light they are just right, and if they are crammed along the edges of the brooder avoiding the light they are too warm.

Is it typical for quail to get bald patches as they gain their feathers? What is the last part to feather in? I have several quail with bald areas on the lower part of their chest. is this normal?
